Design

I like to design things. I have a personal philosophy that anything can be turned into an art. I’d like to apply that to web design, but sadly I’m not the greatest. Self deprecation aside, here’s a sample of my design portfolio.

Web Sites

subter.com

subter was a monthly web magazine that I edited and designed. The current version, known internally as v3, ran from October 2006 through December 2007 before being shuttered for various reasons. This is actually the fifth design that the magazine has seen, and the second on the current CMS.

The Outhouse

The Outhouse is a site by comic nerds, for comic nerds, with enough nonsense thrown in to leave any nerd rather satisfied. The Outhouse consists of a wordpress-powered CMS, and a PHPBB-powered forum. The original design for the forum was Nosebleed by Mike Lothar.

KentonShelley.com

Kenton Shelley does three things - he plays guitar, he drinks, and he sings. Coding a website is decidedly not part of that list. So, this website was design so that Kenton could do everything himself. Another note, aside for the design and coding, I also did a great deal of the writing for the site, including all of the bios for the band members.

Mumah.com

Mumah was griping about wanting a webpage. I told him I could get him one, hell I could get him one in under 10 minutes. True to form, 10 minutes later he had Mumah.com. I did the design (everything except the header) to his approval, and backed it all with a mixture of handcoded pages and Wordpress, matching the templates. This was my darkest design at the time, and my first to take full advantage of transparents. I know it’s not IE6 compliant, but Mumah’s a Mac Guy and he said “F* IE users.” And the client gets what the client wants.

VitoGrippi.com

Vito Grippi is the quiet, married, child-rearing middle ground between myself and Kenton Shelley. Like Kenton, Vito plays guitar. Like myself, Vito knows how to do more with a pen then just hold it. So, when Vito wanted to redesign his webpage, I tossed him a spec design, and then coded the page up. No CMS here, the entire design is handcoded, but it’s simple and Vito says the site accurately captures his personality. I think it looks nifty, and just barely on the right side of hippie.

BradleyRobb.net

Of course, I also designed my own site. The front page aside, the entire site is running WordPress.
